Lost in the back yard.

As I get up yet another peaceful morning and work in my HUGE back yard I can't help but feel the peace of nature. Probably because I'm covered in it from head to toe...

So we moved here In August 2010. My wonderful Sissy spent a week here moving us. Thanks sissy! Anyway, the first time I saw our back yard, it was a perfect oasis of fruits and veggies. It took us a few months before we actually moved in and by the time we got here I walked in to the back yard and almost cried. The owners of this house who had spent countless hours turning this yard in to the oasis that it was had moved and the yard had not been watered, mowed, or weeded in months. So it begins, my battle with the jungle behind my house. After we moved in, the scouts came over and helped as much as they could.  It was mostly the Scout leaders working like crazy while the boys, well... ya know, they're boys. With the yard somewhat under control, fall and winter took over the yard work for a while. I've never appreciated the winter more!  Spring 2011 hit with a renewed sense of love for my yard. That year we planted more veggies than our family could eat in a year. It was delightful; eggplant, squash, artichoke, potatoes, cantaloupe and about 40 tomato plants of all kinds. Just to name my favorites.

That summer I canned, juiced, jellied, and jammed my way through the fall. I got to feel a glimpse of my Grandmas as I learned their favorite recipes. Grandma George (see we weren't allowed to call adults by there 1st name. So my grandma's were Gm. George, Gm Clarke, Gm ford, Gm. Massey. In my family respect was the name of the game.) Anyway...so Grandma George.  She made Jam like nobodies business. She had every possible kind you could think of and she kept it in her dark scary basement. When grandma called for jam we all cried "not it". Sometimes we could form of  a group of cousins and it wouldn't be as freaky venturing into the scary darkness. You be the look out, I'll be the back up and we'll make Shane,(baby of the fam) go in and get the jelly!  Grandma Sammie(my hubby's family call Grandmas by their 1st name, this shocked me!! Gm. Sammie and Gm Nina. In his family love was the name of the game) Gm Sammie; she canned tomatoes among other things or that's what I hear as my sister-in-law trusted me with her canning gear and taught me how to use it. The phrase "Grandma Sammie used to... " is a daily phrase in this family. I can only hope to leave a quarter of the legacy she did. Gm. Nina; now she was from the South so if it can be done, she could do it!! I made zucchini bread from Gm. Nina's recipe and my little 6year old said "I know this taste...it tastes like...GRANDMA NINA!" Gm. Nina would say "Trin look now, cut those kids a piece of that bread, it's good for 'em" It makes me tear up to type that, I can hear her voice. I miss that woman like crazy. But I digress...see the power of my back yard. It brings memories to life!

Winter gave me another much needed break and at this time, I went back to work. (Outside of the home.) One of the hardest tasks I've ever had to do. So when spring 2012 hit. I was working full time and prego.  Mr. Grimes was a full time student/Mr. Mom and the yard fell into disrepair. At 5am as I got ready for work, I would mourn the sad dying jungle behind my house that was once so beautiful. The lawn got mowed(thanks Alan) and the orchard was watered-ish but that was about it. There were no tomatoes or jam in the house that fall, no zucchini bread. Just a void. Winter came and gave my poor heart a much needed break.

Here we are Summer 2013! This morning my yard is still alive and kicking and man does it hate me! The roses fought back as I tried to get them back in shape So I came in bleeding, sweaty, and dirty. It's not the first time this year. The raspberries, blackberries, and most of the trees in the orchard took their vengeance on me. The grapes and I have a truce, I've always loved grapevines, they bring me back to being a kid. I've left the hazel nut and almond trees to their own devices. They seem to be doing fine.  The kids picked out some plants for Dads perfect garden this weekend and even they seem to hate me. But I'm determined to make Dad's Garden grow and to have tomatoes, squash, zucchini, jalapenos and some watermelon. I'm hoping to pull out my "Grandmas" cook book this year so I can add a dash of salt or a splash of lemon juice to what ever it is that I'm making.

The girlies helping in the yard.

Rose beautiful/painful

I will never be able to express my graduated for the opportunity to be the care taker of this house and yard.  It has taught me so much about life and love.

Off I go to get on with my day, with the words to Natasha Bedingfield's song "Backyard," stuck in my head; "Simple days of hand in hand and drawing our names in the sand. Some how, life just complicates our buried treasure, it just waits...lost in the back yard...."

*note anytime I say "I" it should say "we". For every hour I spend on yard work Mr. Grimes spends 2. With out him this yard would swallow me whole.

So as you can see it's been a few years...

Where have I been? Well a quick update:

I went back to work October 2010, went full time August 2011 and stepped down to seasonal August 2012. (Not sure why this is important? Maybe my amazing experience with this will be a blog post some day?)

We had baby #4 come into our life! Sweet little "Char Char the Binks" is the highlight of the family these days. We each love her so completely but in different ways.

Mr. Grimes went to work for his amazingly talented Brother then, not so much. (http://www.moby1trailers.com still rocks check out their trailers. Seriously Ash is a design genius!)

Now here I am between chores, feedings and diaper changes and I decided to write. I'm not sure why? I have a bit of a love hate relationship with writing. My dyslexia and complete disregard of grammar and spelling make me hate it. But when I sit down words flow out of me like it was just what I never knew I always needed and loved!(If your a grammar junkie you may want to stop reading this blog before I break your brain.)

I have this relationship with many things in my life. My yard for one. I get up and go out before it gets to hot. I try and water, weed , mow whatever needs to be done. While I'm out there I get my butt kicked but feel somewhat productive. Then I open the door and the kids have terrorized the poor house. Hence Love/Hate. I think the culprit is karma getting back at me for allowing my grand backyard to become a jungle of neglect last summer. So Karma please accept my amends and work with me on this task.

The love hate thing is a major player in most of my daily life. I hate the task of getting to the project. I sit there dreading how hard it will be or how I may enjoy it but will inevitably get interrupted and not be able to finish. Well after a long enlightening talk with my sister, I realized reaching our potential means sacrificing the time to develop our talents. So here is my 1st blog post in the journey to find my talents to develop. (Is 30 to old to find your talent? I hope not.)  It may be writing or gardening who knows lets find out together...

8 year old BOYS!!

I love being a mom! I know it sounds cliche but I do, I was born for this job!! My sweet lil Kye Wolf turned 8 last month and I am enjoying so much the blessings of an 8 year old boy.

1st he chose to be Baptized. We did a lot of work so he could choose if this was right for him. This boy loves Jesus! Always has, since he could talk he would blow me away with the things he would teach me.
He had a large group of people with him that day, those we could see and those we could only feel.
Kye helps me in so many ways, he wakes up, makes his own bed, gets himself dressed, gets his own breakfast, and watches Bay-Blades. He unloads dishes and takes out trash but the thing he is best at is helping his baby sister with EVERYTHING!! My heart is filled with joy every time I watch him with her. Here he is reading to his sisters 1st thing in the morning...
This kid makes my "job"easier just by being who he is. So sure, he may smell like a boy and laugh at ridiculous potty words but I love his stinkin guts!

Part of the inspiration for this post today was, as I walked through my house, I found proof of my 8 year old everywhere;

By the front door...

In the kitchen...
On my computer desk... and a whole load of them on the book shelf!!

SPRING!!!

It's Spring even if the snow doesn't want to agree, IT IS SPRING!!!

I know this because it's spring break. A week without school the highlight of most of my life.
This Spring break my adorable babies are hanging out with their Grandma.

This means;
1. I got to sleep in.
2. Woke up and watched what I want on TV(witch turned out to be nothing).
3. I took a LONG shower with no interruptions.
4. I got to shaved my legs and didn't have to maneuver around a slippery child who thinks "it's her turn to have the bath tub now!!"
5. Painted my Fingers and Toes :) while talking on the phone for as long as I wanted to my big sissy.
6. Got a deep tissue massage (thanks Randi)
7. Listened to Country Music LOUD and broke into line dancing while I cooked my grilled cheese on JalapeƱo bread with the crust on!
8. Hung out with my Man :)
9. Went shopping and had dinner with my besty (love you Katie)
10. Ended with an awesome night at the ranch where I found a new level of JOY( thanks Kris and Em)
Basically I'm Trin and that feels so good.

This time of year I tend to look back on the darkness of Winter in comparison to the light and promise of Spring. Winter/Spring has brought a lot of changes but I noticed for every bad there is a good. For example Lori leaving for another adventure in New Hampshire(2,440miles away) and Stacy moving to Heber to capture her dreams (only 36miles away). Lynsie & Alan moving to Germany(?miles away google maps says"unknown error occurred)and Bella moving to Provo for school(9miles away). My car being broken and having to drive to Emery County to fix it and spending time in my home town feeling connected to my roots and getting to see my Mama and my Dottie (I love these two women so much God knew what he was doing when he gave me my Moms).

Snow falling on my beautiful new blossoms seeing my girls in there snow gear.

My Blossoms got bit by the cold but are still beautiful!

The horrible thorns through out my house and the pretty green and yellow ground covering in my front yard.(They are flowering weeds before they are thorns)

As spring arrives I am full of hope for the summer. The joys of longer days full of family and fun. I can't wait to have family over in my back yard for a BBQ. I'm sure there will be more posts about my yard as I figure out this wonderland the Hewetts left for us!

As I have said the best part of Spring is being outside and I am now officially a soccer mom! Malachi is on the Blizzards and Abby is a Pixy. Abby's first game she got out there and ran after the ball and ended up with a bloody nose now she is more cautious. Kye is very good at listing to his coach when his coach tells him where to be he goes there. It's so fun I love going to game! So bottom line, life is good. The end :)

a little of this a little of that...

The month of November was huge in our house! I started a new job Sam was in school full time and we had more birthdays than days of the month...ok so that's a bit of an exaggeration but still there are a lot.

We started the month with yard work and tons of it....
I helped a small amount but Sam did most of the work.
When we moved in the weeds were taller than me!
Ed (the owner) came and mowed us a walk way and that's how it stayed until Sam got a brake from school. He couldn't wait to get his hand dirty!
He did all of this with the kids whining behind him.

Let the party begin...
we had a very PINK very FANCY party for Abby! I have tons of CUTE photos but because they are of her friends and not just my kids I won't post them here.
My 6year old!!!

THANKSGIVING...
We had our 1st thanksgiving this year!!!
Everyone came to our house I LOVED having wall to wall beds.
It was defiantly my favorite Turkey day ever :)
I got to use a table cloth from Grandma George,
dishes from Grandma Sammie and Grandma Nina's table.
It was so wonderful to have a piece of each of them!
We went simple and used plastic cup and forks ;)
We had countless "Thanksgiving Miracles"

Life in the fast lane

Ok so first off my wireless card had a battle with Ellie and lost...so I haven't been on line for a while. Only when Sam can spare his computer for a few min which is not much between math and midterms.

There is a spirit to this new house of ours. It has been such a blessing to have a home for the 1st time. I want to clean this house it makes me happy to see the beauty of it. I want to bake and cook for real. I love doing yard work.
The spirit in this house is ENERGY...

October was a crazy month! We started of this
month with loss. We said good bye to a very special Grandmother and felt the pain of a whole year with out Dad.
The spirit of this house is LOSS and COMFORT...

After 3 months of soul searching and telling God what I wanted him to do for me I gave up! I finally had to come to terms with the fact I needed to go back to work. So I grieved the loss of my "stay at home mom" title put on my big girl pants and went back to work!!! Sam has been so understanding and loving. Giving me time and helping in anyway he can. Now I'm relying on the experience strength and hope of those around me both living and passed. I know I can do this.
The spirit of this house is COURAGE...

We have been spending more time as a family whenever we can. We spend the weekends doing yard work. Trimming trees, pulling weeds, mowing the lawn and cutting out all the sunflowers. We ended all of our hard work with a fun little marsh mellow roast!
The spirit of this house is HARD WORK and FUN...
Abby actually let me do her hair!
The spirit of this house is BEAUTY...

Crazy hair day:)

We have had countless Tea Parties...
Abby had to find something to do with the sugar
since she didn't need it for her hot chocolate.
Mmmm it made the brownies extra yummy!
and Princess Tea Parties.
The spirit of this house is ENCHANTMENT and IMAGINATION...

Princess Ellie with "Tea" on her belly
We ended the month on our feet with friends and
family all around.
The spirit of this house is LOVE!!!
Em and Syd came over to carve pumpkins.
Happy Halloween bring it on November!

Abby's 1st day of Kindergarten

So we woke up with one of those mornings where everything is just wrong. I told Abby to go dress herself while I helped Kye get ready for school(I though Abby didn't start school until the next day). I had to have Kye to School by 9:00am and Ellie to the doc by 9:15. I called and told the school Kye was going to be late after deciding I couldn't get him to school before I had to take Ellie to the doc. So I went to grab my keys and head to the doc and...NO KEYS. I txt Sam who was at school and asked if he had seen them to witch he replied "I'm sorry I grabbed both sets". Ok no problem Aunt Em to the rescue right?? Nope no answer. So I debate the idea of just keeping Kye home but decide to cancel the doc instead and walk Kye to school. Poor Abby is coughing all the way there. I told her once we got there we would try Aunt Em again so she wouldn't have to walk home. (side note we live 1.5miles from the school so we don't make the 2 mile cut off for the bus but the people across the street do.) When we get to school 45 min later the office lady says "we have Kye Excuse but not Abby?" I said "Well Abby is in kindergarten and hasn't started yet." She then informed me it was the 1st day of school for Abby. So I took her to class with a cough 45min late and started to walk home. I finally got Em and she came to the rescue (I should have just kept trying her, she was home but didn't hear her phone ring). So this is how Abby looked her 1st day of school. =( The 2nd day of school she was so sick she had a fever of 103. I called the doc and yup that's when we found out she had PNEUMONIA! Poor girl. This week we tried the first day of School again she felt much better and this is how she looked....
